Happy Birthday, Berte! And Happy Belated Birthday, Megan!
All my good intentions about posting to lj flew out the window this month, but I do want to wish two special flisters a Happy Birthday! I hope 2013 brings you both health, peace of mind and lots of laughter. *flu-free hugs and love* from chilly Nova Scotia.
I haven't seen Berte on LJ for a while. Hopefully, she can stop by today and update us.
I take it from your sign off comment that flu brought you down, too? We were flattened all of last week. I completely sympathize with not being able to do anything and just waiting for it to go away already! :-)
*HUGS*
LJ has been so slow lately that I've been finding that I'm hanging out more and more elsewhere. Are you doing the same? Where are you going now?
Please tell me you're still writing. Have you discovered this site yet?
http://www.publishingcrawl.com/
I don't go there everyday, but when I do I find an article or two that I think is really interesting.
I hope that you're are doing well. Keep us posted on you. :-) *misses you and sends hugs!*
Bill wasn't feeling that great on his birthday, so we didn't do much. We'll probably go out in the Spring when the good restaurants open up again for the tourists. There are only a few places open around here in January.
I haven't written a thing since this Fall! Once you're out of the habit it's really hard to get back to it. Lately I've been having plot bunnies, which is a good sign since my mind has been blank for a year now.
I'll have to check out that site. Thank you! *hugs*
LJ ate my comment, and then I only had my smartphone with me, so commenting was tricky.
I am very sorry to hear you had such a run of bad luck (it always comes in 3!) Did you need a CT scan? Your doctor probably told you to pay attention to any worrisome symptoms for the next few weeks - nausea, excessive sleepiness, balance loss, severe headaches etc. When I hit my head a couple of years ago, the doc told me bad stuff can occur even 3 months later! At any rate, I think he meant to scare me into caution, b/c I had refused the CT scan - which would have been a much quicker way to check I was fine. Still, it's good to pay attention!
The old lady shuffle should be called the wise shuffle! Ain't no other way to walk on ice, especially the very annoying black ice! - and I challenge any teenager to do better! Do you have TCS on your car? I found that exceedingly useful, too, for the driving on black ice portion of the day.
Hope your elbow heals soon. It's one of the most painful areas to injure. (There is an expression in Romanian roughly translated like 'I care about this as much as I care about elbow pain' which is meant to mean you don't give a damn. It is one of the most absurd expressions, I always thought, b/c I have yet to find a person who doesn't care about elbow pain. A LOT!) Sending you good and healing thoughts!
No, I didn't have a CT or anything. I bumped my head, but not too hard because I was holding my neck so stiffly that I ended up with whiplash-like soreness. Thankfully, that only lasted a few days. So far, so good for those other symptoms. Thanks for sharing that. (Reason number 999 I'm glad Eddie is no longer playing hockey - too many of his teammates have had bad concussions)
I have studded snow tires which are great for the ice, but since I don't have to traipse all over the province for hockey, I haven't had to use them. :) I wasn't paying attention - that's what got me in trouble. Nothing like a subtle hint from the universe to stay mindful.
I totally understand that Romanian expression. :)
Anyway, enough about me! I hope you can make up for flu on your birthday by celebrating Valentine's Day. :)
I do hope you had a good one? Did you do anything fun or have you just been fighting the flu? Yuck. I hope you are all better now.
I'm on tumblr a lot right now...but I miss everyone on LJ sooooo much. Where are you hanging out now? Or are you? Curious minds want to know. :-)
I also find it useful for capturing images of pretty things or insightful posts on life. I'm sure this isn't how everyone uses or sees it--but for some reason I use it for inspiration. Kinda like I would with pininterest.
I haven't explored Google+. I will have to do so. I stopped using Facebook a long time ago. I have an account and I do occasionally read posts from college friends, but I'm really more of a lurker. It's way too public, and I have definitely stopped posting photos there. I actually haven't in a long time. It feels safer on LJ since I can friend-lock everything and I have always been much more selective in my friends. Anyway, I'm rambling.
I have to blame Lizzie Bennet for my current Tumblr fascination. Who knows if it will continue. I do like the community feel of an interesting fandom--like HP sometimes, and this is a place that is active. So yeah. Not the most ringing endorsement, but that's how and why I use it.
/ end of rant
Google+ has two features I love: first, all the photos I take with my Android are automatically uploaded into my g+ account, under a completely private setting - which I can then change to decide who gets to see which photos. Ever since, I gave up my camera, even though it's much better than my phone. The second feature is that you get to organize your friends into (overlapping) groups, like LJ, only it's much easier to figure out how. So I control the visibility of each post.
That being said, I never posted long things like on LJ. The interface kinda makes you want to post short updates. So far, I've mostly used g+ to stay in touch with people in my field, since they were some of the early adopters. It is a very nice forum to read what research everyone is up to, and even to ask for professional advice once in a while (although there are better forums for that).
I think everyone has different social networking preferences. For me, it's g+ and LJ. And never ever facebook again.
Belated happy birthday to you, my dear twin! How was your day? Did you get some chocolate? Truffles, perhaps? I hope so, and I hope you enjoyed them to the fullest. Now I'll go write a big update - I'll just stir the granola I'm roasting first... *big hugs*
My birthday was spent fighting the flu and generally being miserable. I could hardly swallow liquids, let alone the birthday cakes (plural, yes, b/c hubby bought all my favorites - individual size - from one of my favorite shops in NYC). Mostly, I ate them with my eyes and sucked on lozenges. :-)

Thank you! <3
What a lovely surprise, very heart warming.
I am on LJ, I even try to leave comments (which has been taking forever, so there's not been much patience for that), but my dear MacBook has been so slow, and LJ has taken forever to load, I've just had to do with reading only. I finally updated my OS, which helped a lot. Eventually even i can take a hint, but I was happy the way things wee, so why upgrade? I need to take some serious time out to clear the harddrive and then do a final OS update. I only went from Lion to Mountain Lion now, but Snow Leopard is waiting...
There's always something new to try, a great hint coming from new friends - and one such hint was to check out liph solutions. Which I find quite intriguing, and which I started taking two weeks ago. And there are noticeable changes. I think I shall go write a big post about everything, and also about CORE, which grabs most of my online time at the moment.
How's your writing going, what are you doing these days, and are you finally out of your flu? Plase make sure you're studded! You should have these: http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/43355?fe
*more hugs* So lovely to "see" you again!
Re: Thank you! <3
I'd love to read a post from you about all of your discoveries and insights. I've missed you!
I'm out of the habit of writing - and I need to get back to it. At least I have some ideas brewing now - after over a year of being completely blank!
*big hugs back*
